Chargify Passes 550 Paying Customers, Gets Backing from Mark Cuban
Gregory GomerJuly 26, 2011
Needham based Grasshopper Group the makers of billing and subscription manger Chargify, have just passed a big milestone and attracted the interest of a very high profile angel investor. In a blog post on the Chargify blog, the company announced that they now have over 550 paying customers that are using Chargify and that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has invested an undisclosed amount in the company.
In an email to BostInno Grasshopper Ambassador of Buzz Jonathan Kay said, “We are really excited to get the support of someone like Mark Cuban. Not only is it great to see big entrepreneurs realizing the value / growth potential in the recurring billing space but this money will allow us to do some awesome things for our customers.”
If you recall back in 2009, after successfully growing Grasshopper for 6 years, they launched Grasshopper Group to create additional web applications to empower entrepreneurs. Spreadable and Chargify were both born out of the Grasshopper Group. However, Spreadable had a short lifespan in the startup ecosystem.
In addition to the milestone and funding announcement, Grasshopper Group also announced their pivot ‘back to the future’ (read: back to the past) to strictly focus on turning Grasshopper into a global communications company. With Cuban’s backing and their success with Chargify the company will also be devoting resources to building and maintaining that product as well. They will not be actively building new web applications though.
