What gateway features do I need?
In order to securely store your customer credit card data in a 100% PCI-compliant environment, Chargify utilizes the gateway's 'payment profile' feature. When signing up for a gateway, please be sure to ask for Payment Profiles to be enabled on your account. In some cases, this feature will have an additional cost but will provide you with the peace of mind that your customer data is stored securely.
Do I still need a merchant account and payment gateway to start using Chargify?
Yes. You must setup a merchant account before you start using Chargify. This account enables you to accept recurring credit card payments from your customers. Your payment gateway will transmit your customers' billing information to your merchant bank in order for payments to be deposited into your internet merchant account every month.
Do I still have to pay the transaction fees that my merchant account requires?
Unfortunately this is one thing that we cannot control. Your merchant account and gateway will still take a percentage, also known as discount rate, of every transaction. This is something we would love to change, but it has been standard in the billing industry for years.
Can I run test transactions against my gateway?
Yes. To do so, ask your gateway provider for a test account. Enter the test credentials you are provided into your Chargify "test site" settings. Do not use these credentials for a Chargify production site.
