Frequently Asked Questions:

  • When do I pick my hosted payment page subdomain?

If you are interested in using a hosted payment page, you will be able to choose your subdomain and set up your merchant credentials upon initial login. Most companies choose their company name for simplicity, e.g. 37noises.chargify.com.

  • What happens when a customer’s credit card payment fails?

Online transactions fail for a few reasons: there could be a problem with the credit card itself or something wrong with your online payment gateway settings or merchant account. If it’s a problem with the customer’s credit card, Chargify will manage the entire dunning process automatically, sending a customized email to the customer.

  • Can I use my existing payment gateway or do I need to change?

Chargify currently supports several major payment gateways and we are continuously adding new ones so you can switch at any time. Our full list of gateways currently supported is available on our payment gateways page.

  • What’s a payment gateway and merchant account?

A payment gateway facilitates the secure transfer of information between your website and your merchant account. The merchant account is a type of bank account that allows businesses to accept payment by debit or credit cards. A merchant account also serves as an agreement between a retailer, a merchant bank, and a payment gateway for the settlement of credit card and/or debit transactions.
